Tytuł: Anatomy and morphometry of selected arteries branching from the internal iliac artery relevant to gynecological procedures

Abstrakt:

The anatomy of pelvic arteries, particularly the uterine and obturator arteries, is characterized by significant anatomical variability, posing a challenge for physicians performing gynecological and endovascular procedures. In this thesis, the course and topography of the uterine and obturator arteries were examined and analyzed, resulting in the development of two anatomical maps that may serve as accessible tools for surgeons to visualize these arteries. The findings of both studies were based on anonymized data from pelvic computed tomography angiography. The morphometric parameters of the uterine artery and the obturator artery were examined and analyzed. The most common origin of both vessels was the anterior trunk of the internal iliac artery, with prevalence of 69% and 57.2%, respectively. Additionally, the median distance between the obturator artery and the uterine artery was set to be 13.35 mm, and it was found that this distance decreases with age. The third part of this dissertation provides comprehensive and detailed information on the arterial blood supply to the ovaries. Particular attention was given to the anastomoses formed between the pelvic vessels, such as the corona mortis, which occurs in up to 49.3% of the population (including arterial and venous anastomoses), and the uterine-ovarian anastomoses, present in 48.6% of women. Each of these studies include ; s the clinical implications associated with the described vessels. The primary objective of this dissertation was to enhance the understanding of anatomical variability, vascular courses, and morphometric parameters of pelvic vessels, providing a comprehensive source of information for physicians to enhance the effectiveness and safety of medical interventions.
